Review on Transforming Art and Computer Desk for Kids - Calico Designs Ashwood/Graphite 51240 by Amanda Hill

Not as good as expected. Nothing for big, heavy computers.

I wanted to love this table and adjustable shelves would be a good idea but unfortunately the computer it ran on was too heavy for them. As a result, the shelf swung up and down. The nervous tension of seeing a computer worth over $1,500 bounce and wobble! So we had to put it on the floor, which I really didn't want to do. Now I need to find or build a platform for it. Since we are in dire need of a desk right now and it fits the space where we need it, we decided to keep it. If I had known that the shelves could only hold a light, small computer, I would NOT have bought it. The description of the shelves was not entirely correct. Although the shelf is 8 inches wide and just under 19.5 inches deep, with a board-to-board height of almost 18 inches, it doesn't fit on a computer of this size. Actually, the computer shelf is only suitable for 18 3/8 inch computers. " deep, but if your cord or power button is down where the ledge is, you will need to remove the rear handle, otherwise I would say your computer needs to be 17" deep or less. The computer shelf will only fit a computer no taller than 17 inches, as the top shelf bars will get in the way of anything taller. A computer is at risk of falling off the edge if it's over 7 inches wide because the top shelf's bars will force you to slide it off the edge. So most PCs won't fit on a computer shelf like this. The adjustable side panels fit my computer which is 20" deep and 9.5" wide, but like I said, they can't support the weight. This desk is chipboard and looks cheap, quality so poor it's obviously faux wood, but the legs and supports are good solid metal and well welded, overall the table isn't too wobbly, just the side shelves.

Pros
  • The best in its niche
Cons
  • Only available in white
