I bought 2 of these one in 2011 and the other in 2014. I ONLY use these mics for recording so if you need a live sound review have a look look elsewhere. I had these mics on my big maple toms because they didn't sound as good on my snare, which is basically a 14x10 mahogany beast with wooden hoops. Sounds fatter than Kim Kardashian's butt. As of February 2020, one of the mics is picking up this EVIL, distorted hum. When I unscrewed the lid I found that the glue had come loose and the insides were hanging out in the grate. This is the first and only problem I encountered after 9 and 5 years respectively. Tit. The whole kit costs about the same as ONE SM57 or Audix i5. That's a pretty good return. I'm squeezing my drums pretty hard and running them through some distortion and some reverb. These microphones handle this scenario very well. I also sometimes smack my mics and they hold up well to the abuse of the rock sticks I use. The sound quality is pretty darn good in my opinion if you like warm, fat low frequencies with decent mids and muffled highs. I like. As long as you have a decent mixer or interface, you can get clean recordings. Is there a difference between these and more expensive boutique mics? Of course. But if you're on a tight budget and don't mind experimenting with compression and EQ, these guys can hold their own in the recording environment.
