Be careful when using it to sleep.

UPDATED COMMENTS BELOW I wanted to love this product but I think it's not safe if you plan on using it on a sleeping baby. We bought this to use in a standard size Graco during a 2 week vacation. pack and play. It arrived quickly and didn't have the bad smell that other reviewers have mentioned. It was softer than I expected but still good enough for short-term use. I probably wouldn't feel comfortable using it on a newborn but thought it would be durable enough for my 9 month old. It was easy to set up and conformed closely to the body. My daughter slept well in it and everything was going fine until she learned how to stretch the foam and started playing with it! She could fold a full third of it on her own. We had her sleep in a separate room with the baby monitor on at all times and I couldn't guess what she was up to. The obvious concern is that she could get trapped or suffocate under the foam. I know the website warns not to leave children unattended but even if she were in the same room as us I think it's very likely we would have overslept this had it been at night. I believe most of the people who buy this product use it to let their kids sleep when they are away from home so it would be impossible to watch them all night. UNDER a hard playmat. The Pack n Play mat has a Velcro system to attach it to the bottom to avoid such situations. This fixes the foam well. It's not perfect but I figured we might as well benefit from this expensive product as we can't return it. Very disappointed. UPDATE Mamadou contacted me to help me find a solution to this issue. They have great customer service and let me try their own sheets to make sure the only issue was that the sheets didn't fit properly and they were concerned that I hadn't wrapped the sheets over the mattress. Their sheets are nice and help a little, but as an adult I was still able to pull out one side of the foam by giving it a firm tug a few times. My daughter no longer enjoys tutu and play so it's hard to check if she can still pull the foam up. My personal solution to this problem was to sew a loop on either side of the sheet and then thread the velcro through the loop and then fasten the velcro. It's still not perfect but gives me a lot more confidence that the mattress will stay down. Mamadou told me that they have never complained about it. I believe this can only be an issue in very strong and persistent children who are agile, but I think it's worth sharing.
