Review on Enhanced Grandstream Gigabit NAT Router featuring Power-Packed 2-Port ATA by Elizabeth Reyes

Some details from my observations

This is a really good dedicated Sip/Voip D/A phone adapter. It's small, low power consumption and cool to the touch. You set it up through a web browser, which I find very convenient. Has an incredible amount of customization options. If this is your first time using Voiper, all of this can seem intimidating. You must ensure that your VoIP provider has end-to-end access to grandstream. But if you know what you're doing, you can do whatever you want with this box. It has all the advanced g.279 and Opus codecs. Again, nothing will do for you if your ISP doesn't support them. So I get a perfect voice quality. and you can fine-tune the parameters in any way you can think of. If you want to switch from IP phone to IP phone over the Internet, all you have to do is encrypt your voice. You can't go wrong with this pup. So I would like to say a few words about security. In my experience, "ALL” smart devices currently have a hidden code to call home and this is no exception. I intentionally connected this box to a LAN sniffer and watched for a while. Of course he tried to send some packages to Hanoi, Vietnam! And try doing some non-standard things on port 123 (time). You will also end up opening ports 5060 to make this work on your router. You WILL have a scout knocking on your voip ports. not because of this box, but simply because 5060 is a popular port that hackers seek. So I suggest you have a good router with IP address filtering capability and only block Grandstream on "your" VoIP provider IP address. Otherwise your phone will ring 24/7. And I see no reason for this box to communicate with anything other than your VoIP provider's IP address. So block! And if you don't know how, then VoIP becomes a security risk in your home. The built-in router on this device is useless unless you consider this device as a real router and intend to connect other devices to it. The router part is very primitive, just set "wan only" and forget it. I only got this version of the box because it advertised broadband HD voice. Although I'm not sure if I really made a profit. I think you could buy a step down and get the HT802 and have the same without the router bits. And the HT801 can also be very good if you only need one incoming line.
