Bought this to wash my husband's favorite paratrooper caps. They were pretty dirty after 2 years of wearing. We tried one of my little pink hats first. The cap washer consists of 3 parts, you install the cap in the middle, with a plastic mold on top and one on the bottom with the cap in between. Close the latches in the order given in the instructions. Place in the top rack of the dishwasher and wash as usual with detergent. I can't turn off the heat of the dishwasher so I take it out right after stopping the rinse cycle and let the lid air dry, leaving it on the lid washer so it keeps its shape. I don't really know if plastic will survive a heat cycle, but I won't risk it and don't recommend using it in a washing machine. My hat came out pretty clean. Perhaps a spray wash would help remove the makeup from the inner rim, but the outside and beak were clean and held their shape. The man's cap showed off even better. He is very satisfied, so buy it, everything works.
