I bought this along with the SSD when upgrading my son's Acer laptop. I've seen someone else use this with the same type of computer. This was done to transfer data and check for updates before cracking the case. On the plus side, the case feels well constructed and fits the laptop perfectly. The molded vanity top from the ODD blind panel is perfect. All 3 discs I tried fit easily. Unfortunately, the SSD I bought was not visible at all with this container. After going through all four possible DIP switch combinations and making several attempts to reinstall the carriage and drive, I gave up and hacked the case. I also tried the internal spinning disc: again a few transfers and nothing. At this point, I blamed the laptop. I took a spare SSD I had and gave it a try - lo and behold, it worked! I can't tell what the problem was as I'm not interested in reopening the case and going through another round of testing. The first SSD performed great internally and worked well in an external USB enclosure. The old internal spinner also worked fine prior to removal and in the same external USB enclosure. So I'm not particularly thrilled with this purchase as it wasn't fit for my purpose. Maybe I'll give it back.
