Review on Olympus 142665 DM 620 Voice Recorder by Brian Nelson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent digital recorder

I have been recording audio lectures for 40 years, from cassette, CD, direct to computer and older generations of digital recorders. This Olympus DM-620 is the best portable recorder I have ever used. Don't let its size fool you, it has great features. Faithfulness for small group meetings needs to be heard to be believed. Even if there is a mixture of soft and loud voices, each of them can be clearly heard. I've never missed a shot with this Olympus and the battery life is excellent. Many digital recorders don't have a built in speaker like the Olympus DM-620 just in case you want to test your recording in the field. Also, it comes with 4GB of storage by default and you can easily add more if needed. Plug in a USB cable and you can transfer files to your computer in seconds. I have compared the quality of this recorder to sound recorded with separate microphones, passed through an amplified mixer with heavily shielded cables and directly into computers and this Olympus meets or exceeds the quality of this unit. I've shot in the field and at meetings in a variety of conditions and background noise, and each time the Olympus GM-620 has done an excellent job for me. Plus, you can pull it out of your shirt pocket to take notes when needed. The built-in mics are so good I'll never carry mics with me again. It's easy to use, "she", Olympus, talks to you as you make adjustments and the screen clearly illustrates many of the functions. It's so small you can put it in your pocket and not even notice it's there. If you are looking for a digital recorder this is a very, very good little recorder at a great price from Revain. I really hope Olympus keeps this model in their arsenal in case I ever lose mine!
