We have a variety of hangers of this type - from the more expensive ones from well-known national closet and organization stores, to hangers from a less expensive Minnesota-based chain. — They are practically indistinguishable from those derived from any source. They are not as strong as solid plastic or cedar wood hangers, but take up less than half the space and are as strong as other fine velvet hangers. They twist well and easily hold all but the heaviest winter wool coats. My guess is that the hook is black and not shiny metal. I agree with another reviewer who noted that it is a greenish gray color and not real charcoal. This is a great neutral color. No problems with color transfer or dust. However, I would categorically NOT use them to dry clothes.
