I have two different USB-C connector boards with ASMedia ASM2142 chip (PU31-2C-2 USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps), 2 Type-C ports) for my Dell XPS8700, high-end PC purchased with 16GB of memory. The cards were guaranteed to work with Windows 10. One failed immediately, the second didn't work at all. The first card worked for about two minutes. Then I got a crazy error message with a QR code saying Windows had never seen this error. Then my computer uploaded a bunch of data to Microsoft and restarted. The first card never worked again; I couldn't get it to recognize any of the 3 different USB-C drives I have. I thought maybe it was a bad card so I bought a second (identical) card. Instead of dying after two minutes, the second map didn't work at all. I returned both Ableconn ASMedia ASM2142 cards. I then bought a 4-port USB-C card from another manufacturer for $149. It works great; I had no problems with that.
