Review on ๐Ÿ” Dust with Precision: HARRIS Diatomaceous Earth Powder Duster - 6 Inch Extension Nozzle by Opal Holmberg

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A simple device, but very effective!

This atomizer fits easily and distributes the power well. You can pretty much control how much is sprayed by applying pressure to the bellows and how hard you press down. With practice, you can be more accurate and shoot an uneven band of gunpowder instead of a cloud, which is especially important when using something toxic like an actual pesticide. But if you do THIS, wear a mask! Or you breathe some of it into your lungs. Not good at all. The powder will hang in the air for a while so be selective about when and where you apply it and keep children and animals out of the way. Don't come back without a mask for a few hours. If you put it on at night and come back the next morning, everything is fine. I did this in our basement laundry room. The floor drain runs underground under the house to the main drain pipe to the street, so after all that rain in New York this spring, the floor got wet and the water rose. We and many homes in the area have had water bug infestations. Pretty disgusting. I finally got rid of them (most dead, the rest thrown out) by โ€ข dry spraying basement corners and drains with diatomaceous earth mixed with boric acid powder (the former incapacitates them, the latter kills them) โ€ข spraying. Chests, bags and furniture, all walls, shelves, ceiling beams and alcoves with a mixture of tea tree oil, neem oil and dish soap in water. About a tablespoon per liter of water. These ingredients are used in gardens to get rid of pests and plant diseases, they won't harm you or your property but they repel pets. Tea tree oil is also a powerful antifungal and will take care of your basement or under sink mold problem (as well as dandruff and smelly shoes. Look) and the odor will be gone in two days.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • A dubious purchase for the elderly
