Amazing Price

Despite the modest price of this Hotec wireless microphone, I'm really impressed with the build quality and ease of use. It's great to have a built in battery and to be able to charge both transmitter and receiver with a standard cell phone charger. (The unit comes with a dual charging cable that allows you to charge both pieces at the same time.) For only $40, the freedom you get from a wireless mic is intoxicating, and I love that about this Hotec mic for Video people who want it steer clear of just using the camera's built-in microphone. This hotec is MUCH better than using the camera's built-in microphone. That doesn't mean that the Hotec microphone is perfect. It has quite a bit of background noise that is easy to hear. I used the software to remove most of the background noise from my video review, but pay special attention to the audio before and after using the noise reduction. If you're used to getting good sound (e.g. with wired microphones), you might be disappointed with the background noise that this Hotec microphone emits. I'd suggest Hotec develop a quieter model and sell it for $20 more - that would be a steal if the background noise was, say, 10dB quieter. I would buy three of these! Also note the distance test I did. If you intend to use a wireless mic consistently within 50 feet or more (16+ meters) of the receiver, Hotec is not your mic. If you are within 20 feet you should have no problem. This mic is great value for money and really impressed me with the build quality, features and ease of use. Slight loss in sound quality just because of the background noise. If you're starting out with video and want to move on to something better than an in-camera mic, this Hotec kit is a great choice.
