Review on WAVLINK Thunderbolt DisplayPort Charging Ethernet by Derek Kraft

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Solid looking product but the ethernet port throttles my internet speed by 35%-45% - Updated.

I returned an Aukey USB-C hub that stopped working shortly after purchase and based on the reviews I decided to buy it despite the high price this WAVLINK docking station. I love that it's self-powered and therefore only uses one of the two USB-C ports on my 2020 MacBook Pro M1. Everything seems to work fine including the DisplayPort connection for my large monitor. However, I have noticed that my internet speed is now 1/3 of my normal speed. When connecting directly through the Apple Ethernet to USB-C adapter I get about 900Mbps. Using an Ethernet connection on this dock/hub. it is up to 280-300 Mbps. Still fast, but unacceptable. I have contacted support via email "contact@wavlink.com" but there is no automatic acknowledgment of receipt, nothing to indicate that they have read it. I will update this review over time but for now. to a bad start. UPDATE 1: They answered (good) but with no real idea of what might be (bad). Will be updated as development progresses. UPDATE 2: They asked me to run many tests, connect to another MacBook (same issues), connect many different ways and I concluded that the hub is THROTTLES which reduces the ethernet speed . However, until now, Wavlink support has not responded to my emails. So I don't know if this is a one time defective product or if they built it that way. They will not endorse their products, I will not buy or recommend any Wavlink products. UPDATE 3: To their credit, they replied to me. But they have no idea what could have ruined my ethernet speed. I even bought another unit to see if it might be defective (and they offered to return the old unit for credit upon receipt) and it works the same. For some reason unknown to you or me, using the ethernet port on the device slows down the speed significantly.
