Review on Digital Voice Activated Recorder Lectures Portable Audio & Video by Justin Butler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

For the price, small size and promised basic features, Sony has some competition!

Really worthy recorder. It's small. It has an OLED screen (white, not blue). Keys do not rattle when moving the device. The record switch has always been my favorite way to start recording. Reminds me of the cassette tape days when DC motors were driven by the push of a button. I find the plate switch a warm holdover from this one. But the firmware could be much better. How about a soothing graphic animation like an hourglass instead of "Please wait"? The animation screen "Goodbye + an old guy with a big nose" looks and sounds so childish and unprofessional. Instead, a few words of honor like "power down" and "power up" would be better. it should have better words than "WELCOME". and like not at all. Just go straight to the capture screen so I can get started. Why use a broken heading at the top for menu headings when you can get another line with a little scroll bar. "Exit" isn't needed in the main menus (some don't even have it), replace it with a highlighted playback settings menu that only appears during playback. And please make an additional password protection option: yes, playback only (so quick recording still works and turns off when finished). It would be nice to also display the current time on the clock. I hope they release firmware updates to improve performance because the physical design of the device is close to perfect!

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
