Review on Oral-B iO Series 8 Electric ๐Ÿชฅ Toothbrush: Black Onyx with 3 Replacement Brush Heads by Chelsea Hunter

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A few changes from the classic Oral-B, but not for the better

My family has been using Oral-B's 'classic' electric toothbrush for years, so I was happy to try this next-gen IO electric Toothbrush. First, the toothbrush keeps my teeth nice and clean, just like my classic Oral-B. But there are a few upgrades I don't like that lower my rating for this product. In contrast to the classic Oral-B and its rotating brush head, the new IO now uses "micro-vibration". I feel like I'm using a Sonicare electric toothbrush now. Now I know it's personal preference, but I don't like the Sonicare - the few times I've tried it, the Sonicare chatters with my teeth and makes brushing very frustrating. I have the same feeling with the new Oral-B IO. I'm disappointed that Oral-B went down this route with their new toothbrush. The charging station is very unstable. There is no holder here, the toothbrush just sits on a flat charging stand. An internal magnet is used to hold the toothbrush on the base, but it in no way "locks" the toothbrush in place. Expect IO to fall onto a counter or the floor every time you touch it. - IO has a nifty customizable RGB LED light that also lets you know if you're brushing too hard or not hard enough, but nothing happens. to identify the brush heads, like the classic model. This makes it less suitable for couples or families sharing. (The classic model has colored rings that can be used for this purpose.) Replacement IO tips currently cost about twice as much as classic OEM tips. Overall disappointing "upgrade". The new features (Bluetooth, phone app, LED lighting) don't really improve my cleaning experience, and the above elements break things that didn't break before. Perhaps those who like the ultrasonic (buzzing) Sonicare method will appreciate this toothbrush more than I did.
