Review on Noctua NF A4X20 FLX Premium 40X20Mm by Michael Vargas

A fan that lives up to Noctua's reputation

I recently updated the case for my computer. The new case had significantly quieter fans than my old one. Happy as a peacock, I set about using it, but was interrupted by a high-pitched screech that quickly got on my nerves. A little investigation and I found that the culprit was an off-the-shelf 40mm fan that was helping to cool a component on my motherboard. So I started looking for a replacement. Enter the Noctua fan. I knew about Noctua from a study I did on CPU coolers a few years ago. Your reputation is very good. This inspired me to choose this fan over other cheaper brands. I was not disappointed. This fan is quiet. There is very little sound other than the sound of the air flowing through them. That too is minimal. Obviously this is exactly what I was looking for so it fits the bill perfectly. I wanted a fan that would not disturb the quiet. This one is dead quiet. Overview: The fan comes with a standard 3-pin connector used in many motherboards and electronics. The box also includes a number of additional items. It includes a short extension cable, low-noise fan reduction adapters, and 4 omni-wire clips so you can easily remove the included 3-pin connector and plug in a new one if needed. A set of screws for the case and anti-vibration mounts. also included in the box. The fan itself has silicone grommets on the corners to reduce vibration. Unlike other browsers, I haven't had any issues with them falling off. I didn't use any of the included mounting options as I was just using the mounting solution already provided by my motherboard. I suspect the anti-vibration mounts will be disposable. They are shaped like Christmas tree clips and can be easily torn apart when removed. Another benefit is that it comes with a beautifully designed guide that explains how to use the adapters and silicone holders. Conclusion: The packaging of this fan is just crazy. It comes in a double cardboard box with a molded plastic shell. I suspect they are trying to give the impression of quality with the packaging, but it seems really overkill for a product that only costs $14. Noctua wants its customers to feel they have received a quality product by offering and packaging it as a unit. Well it worked. It's a big little fan.
