I've been using the Nesco Snackmaster Express for over 10 years and have become very efficient at drying apples and beef jerky. I always knew that apples take 6 hours to cook and jerky 7 hours at different temperatures. Unfortunately, my old device stopped working and I had to buy a new one. The first one I got had a big gap between the lid and the skins which allowed air to escape and my first batch of apples took almost 10 hours (4 hours more). ). I sent it back and you know what. The new one didn't fit properly either. It wasn't too bad, but no matter how I close the lid, there's a small gap on one side. I tried a batch of apples and it took about 7.5 hours. Still 1.5 hours longer than before. I tried to contact Nesco to see if they would be willing to refurbish my old device but I get no response. It belongs to the category of old blocks (same model) that work better than new ones. You'd think they'd at least figured out that the lid has to fit the trays snugly, since the whole point is catching the hot fruit/meat drying aid. Be an "expert" in this process, start fresh and learn how to work most efficiently.
