I would like to have a flow rate higher than acceptable by using a reasonable (water saving) water flow to rinse my hair and body. I have showerheads that have been stripped of water restrictors, but I feel guilty about the excess and stingy with hot water usage. This check valve is perfect for us. I can just leave it on to save water by restricting the flow. With a simple, gentle movement of the spool valve, I can get the ideal flow rate for flushing and then switch the spool back to economy mode. I adjusted the shower head to a position that seems to suit our preference for increasing or decreasing flow. An amazing discovery: with this valve I can turn off the shower completely and when I turn it back on the water temperature is very close to the temperature I had when I turned off the flow. I've never managed to achieve this through my own efforts to turn it off; Then turn it back on using the existing shower valve on the wall. I was concerned that the flow through this small valve would be unsatisfactory even if wide open. The flow rate of a non-adjustable shower head is very close to the flow rate when this valve is wide open. I'm not obsessive enough to measure the difference. I know enough: It relieved me of the overwhelming guilt and greed I knew when using the unlimited flow showerhead.
