PIANO SOLO AND GUITAR OK BUT NO VOICES OR VIOLIN - QUALITY CONTROL EDITION

I feel like an idiot. This is the third set of these speakers I've bought and I'll be returning them all soon. The first set had rough elevation edges so I sent them back. Then I was new to this business and didn't understand that they needed to be broken in. They were by far the best of the three. The second movement was so bright and tinny that I had to drop the highs to -10. I returned them immediately. This third set is roughly in the middle, with the treble set at -6. Also, I muted 2kHz to 3/4 on my EQ and muted 4kHz to half. I contacted Elac and they suggested a break-in period of 12-24 hours. I then asked Google and a break-in period of 10 to 30 hours was recommended for tweeters. I outclassed them all and after 32 hours of playing time, I clenched my teeth. It really didn't make much of a difference. Elac also said the problem could be that I'm using an 8 ohm receiver, so I bought a receiver that was significantly more expensive than my current one and could accommodate those 6 ohm speakers. I've tried this receiver before and was hoping it would work for these speakers. The receiver I bought sounds pretty warm. As these Elac speakers are actually a bit dry in sound (hence their amazing clarity) I figured they might fit. Unfortunately, this didn't change the uncomfortable edge of the high frequencies I heard in some singers' voices. BTW, for all you bass eaters (I'm not one of them): these speakers have a lot of bass, and I turned the bass down to -2 a couple of times for a more natural effect. I found solo piano and guitar music sounded fine, but squeaky violins sounded because of these speakers. My theory is that this excessive treble drop came about when Andrew Jones changed the treble peak from 20kHz, which was at F6, to 35kHz at F6.2. A Crutchfield customer service rep listened to my story and thought that since I'm so good at handling high frequencies, I would have liked the original Elac F6 debut speakers better. The Elac representative told me the same thing. Too bad they are no longer made, although I could probably find a used pair somewhere. Until then, I'll continue to make do with my old Marantz speakers, which outperform them on all counts. Elac speakers are beautiful pieces of furniture.
