From the looks of it, it can be a scarf or a long scarf. While the description is light, the amount of fabric gives it a nice weight, it's not flimsy at all. Black is "black" (some blacks are grayer, but this is true black). Not as soft as I would like silk to be (hence 4 stars and not 5) but I think it will soften over time. Quality assembly/tailoring. Now I wear it around my neck under my coat because it gets cold and windy in New England. But it's not cold enough for a thick scarf yet. Perfect for a light jacket or raincoat. I mostly use it with my coat but today I threw it over my shoulders at work because there was a little draft. Great for the price just wish it was softer
