I bought a pair of Surges and a pair of iHip AquaVibes at the same time. The first Surge pair was short right out of the box, but I've been swimming with a spare pair for a few weeks now (and the Surge has a 1-year warranty, so that's a good thing). The AquaVibes work well but don't sound as good as the Surges - I keep the AquaVibes as a backup pair for the day the Surges stop working and I need to buy a new pair or ship them under warranty. The Surges' sound quality is surprisingly good for a set of waterproof headphones. I've had regular earbuds and earbuds that didn't sound that great, so they're definitely good enough for working out, running, etc. unless you're a swimmer. One downside: the body of the plug is straight (as opposed to rectangular) and very long - just over 2 inches I think, not counting the actual plug you plug into your player. The plug is more likely to hit objects or be subjected to pressure, stressing your player's jack. I would MUCH prefer a rectangular plug - if not a square plug, then at least a smaller, straight plug. Two awkward moments in fact: the box is a nightmare, to open the box without destroying it you have to make a lot of effort and you have to either remove the earbuds that fit the headphones or hard cut the strip of plastic that located between the seat mounts and the headphones (see photo of the box) Really unnecessary and annoying, it's like opening a box with a jigsaw puzzle. Some people say you can't swim/swim fast with waterproof headphones. You can! Swimming instructions with waterproof earmuffs: 1) They only work if they seal the ear canal 100%. Phones need to seal ALL water, leaving only empty air between the phone and the eardrum. If ANY water gets in, you won't hear anything as phones aren't powerful enough to transmit sound through water. The same applies to ALL waterproof headphones. Surges come with five sizes of eartips; the ones already in the headphones fit me perfectly, there are two smaller sets and two larger sets. For swimming, choose a set that requires you to pull the edge of your ear to insert it, which would be extremely uncomfortable; You will get used to it and it will hold water. EVERYONE will find a suitable pair among the five sets. Half a dozen swims I've never had water: I thread the cable under, through (between the gap in the back) and around the goggle strap again, carefully plug in the headphones, jump, swim in circles, climb out, take off the towel , remove the headphones. TA Dah! Inserting the headphones: a) When inserting the headphones, pull the edge of the ear up and insert it deep/deep into the ear canal. b) Try to insert the headphones with the wire up and a little backwards and fix them. / Wires in place with goggle fastener and/or cap. 2) Considering 1) you need to take steps to ensure your headphones don't stutter or twitch. If they move or are pulled, they will leak. Use the goggle strap and/or another strap and/or a cap to keep the headphones securely in place, do not tangle them and do not remove them after setting them up. Finding a protection method that works for you, your player, your glasses, your ears, and your cap takes a fair bit of trial and error. The waterproof cap can also reduce the swimming noise you hear when listening to music. With the ear cups sitting correctly on your ears, a little trial and error is all it takes to set them up and you'll be sailing through the musical storm in no time. I suspect that most people with issues either had ill-fitting earbuds or failed to secure the earbuds with straps/caps once they were put on.
