In my experience, Apple's iPhone charging cables are prone to wearing out and breaking after a year or so of normal use. The rubber sheaths rot and fray first, and then the exposed copper cables follow. In the past, I purchased more cables from Apple, but I've since given up and turned to sturdier 3rd party cables with braided nylon sheaths, such as these here. I've just found that they hold up much better than the OEM cables. These cables look to be of good quality, and I expect they will last a long time. Only time will tell if they will hold up for years, but I've not had any problems with them so far. They're cheaper than buying comparable OEM cables, and they appear to have better construction.
