Review on Cheerwing Syma X5C-1 Explorers Quadcopter Drone with Camera - 2.4Ghz 4CH, 6-Axis Gyro, RC by Pete Juarez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Far exceeded expectations

I wasn't expecting much from this but I checked out the reviews and ordered it before Christmas. I only opened the box about 3 weeks ago and it was ready to use without any adjustments. It's relatively easy to fly, but as some others have noted they have no altitude hold and it's hard to tell where the front of the quad is. when he's gone The range seems to be well over 30 meters and I've found the flight time to be typically 5 minutes, but I've never dropped the dough. There's nothing special about the camera, and mine may not have any sound at all, but it's better than no camera. I took pictures and video but the downside of this quad is that it can't see what you are doing so the price is significantly lower than these models. Default functionality is the "back home" function. I had an accident today where my quad was quite high up and I lost direction so it moved quite a distance away from me. I made the situation worse, so I immediately shut off the gas and he fell from quite a height. I tracked him down and heard him collapse in the bushes/trees/woods on our property. I immediately headed that direction and it was about 300 feet from where I checked it. It got stuck in the hood and I only found it when I gave it some throttle to listen to the engines. It didn't come free so I had to do a selective harvest to get it back. I took out the memory card and we watched it fly for about 8 minutes before I eased off the gas. In the video, it can be seen spiraling down until it lands on tree branches. Since I never switched off the video, the recording continued until the 8 GB card was full. When I took it off, the battery was dead. I reloaded it and it flies again.

Pros
  • Good workmanship
Cons
  • Anything I can add?
