Note I paid $268 for each new one. These are well detailed speakers that sound wonderful. They are intended for audiophile oriented listeners (a very wide range of people actually, but I'll say they're not for everyone). They're for the listener who wants very realistic sounding equipment, thinking about how the instruments actually sound in real life - what's good, what's bad. It's NOT warm, but it's not cold either, unless the recording itself is of poor quality. They are very neutral to the source and have a very flat frequency response. They don't have amplified bass. Since they're sealed, the bass never suffers from port chug either, which I love because I can't stand port chug. Bass is very fast and detailed and might be a little light for some listeners, you may need a subwoofer to fill out the low frequencies. (I didn't find any in my room.) The mids sound natural, and indeed all the vocals shine. The highs are fast, detailed and very smooth for a "detail-oriented" speaker. (no listener fatigue) It also works well with electronic music, cymbals, electric guitars and the like, which I think needs a metal-based tweeter to bring it to life. (Again, they're not warm or euphonious, if you want to be warm there are plenty of other speakers - try the Polk lsim703, currently selling for 450 a pair online, compared to 1500). For example, these are quite dynamic loudspeakers, in direct comparison they are noticeably more dynamic than my JBL 306 MKII studio monitors. Give them at least 10+ hours of playback at high volume to loosen them up a bit, they'll soften the sound a bit, make it more coherent and less "metallic". I like these speakers very much. I currently have/had the following speakers in a similar price range (Polk LSIM703, Focal studio monitors, JBL 306 MKII, wharfedale denton, infinity r162, ELAC UB5, several Boston Acoustics m25, a25, KEF q100, KEF q150, and some home-made designs, JBL LSR308 and more) Just trying to give an idea that I have other systems to compare. These are really good speakers for the money ($268 for each C-3 on sale). I like a lot of different speakers, I don't really have a favorite but I would most likely choose them over any of the ones I've just listed. .
