Still Made in Germany - and no longer all Rowenta

Like Rowenta? I also. I have had several of their irons over the years and have always been happy with them. But in recent years Rowenta has succumbed to market forces and now they make much of their irons in China. Fortunately, this is not the case with this model. This one is actually still Made in Germany and you can feel that when you touch it. It's rock solid and works great. I notice less water when ironing compared to previous Rowenta models and the handling and glide are excellent. (Note that this model, like many Rowenta models, uses a stainless steel plate, not a Teflon-coated plate, so be careful not to scratch it or it will become uneven and could wear down your fabric.) The water compartment holds a lot of water, although the truth is that when you vape heavily you also have to refill a lot because all that water is transferred to your clothes through steam. A slight downside is that the blue/green model can be a bit difficult to check the water level easily due to the dark plastic used: you almost need some sort of light source behind the iron when checking this. The controls work reassuringly well, and there's even a great removable 'scale catcher': we'll have to see how well it performs over time as the water is very hard here where I live. It's a bit more expensive than some other irons, but also cheaper than many others I've seen. It works fantastic and is still made in Germany. I highly recommend it.

Pros
  • 3-position thermostatic knob - easy to use and to select the perfect steam for every textile
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
