Review on πŸ“ High-Quality Raspberry Touchscreen: ELECROW 1024X600 7" IPS Portable Touch Display by Ismael Goler

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works great on Windows 11 but not so well on Raspberry Pi OS.

Overview of the Elecrow 7 Inch Touch Screen HDMI Monitor with Speakers. Works great on Windows 11 but not so well on Raspberry Pi. OSI really wanted this to work with my Raspberry Pi 4B. The user guide points out some configuration lines that need to be added to /boot/config. txt, that's what I did. With a freshly installed latest version of Raspberry Pi OS (based on Debian Bullseye), this monitor has only the most basic features. Screen tapping works great and is responsive, webpage scrolling works, but there's no long-press for a right-click and no zooming. In the Firefox web browser, touching the menu items in the top bar does not work, but this appears to be a Firefox-only issue. In other programs, pressing menu items worked. As for the speakers, they work great although the sound quality is metallic as expected from small tiny speakers. I also tested this little monitor on my Windows 11 laptop. It works great including the speakers, long press to right click, zoom and scroll. (See video) If I wanted to use it for this purpose I would give it 5 stars. But I wanted it for my Raspberry Pi and the description says it works for Raspberry Pi so this little monitor is fine for my purposes. disappointing. Another thing that complicates the RPi user experience is that there is only one on-screen keyboard available (the matchbox keyboard) which doesn't work well. However, this is a software issue, not an issue with the monitor itself. Perhaps working with a Raspberry Pi would have been better with a different version of Linux, but I was keen to use the Raspberry Pi OS.
