Very easy to assemble. Karen, the smell isn't a problem. Not recommended for young children unless supervised as foam is obviously a hazard to any child. Under supervision, of course, no problem. Beautiful playmat for babies. The boards you need to use must be of different colors to match properly. No need to cut it like some have decided to do. Doesn't tear easily like some say. You literally have to handle the product like a man. I think it would be nice to buy more and make a big playground in the basement. I ordered 36.
