UPDATED Still Disappointed with Beast 20

UPDATE: I wore them a week ago in August and it wasn't a great experience: sore legs, sore knees, less stability and although the length was ok at 12.5, the top did just doesn't. Doesn't fit my foot like a Beast 18 in a size 12. I managed to find a pair of 18s at a local store, bought them and now they are worn out. So I decided to give Beast 20 another try. Unlucky, but this time I didn't notice any problems with my knees. I had to give up after five days of wearing standard insoles for a day (feet hurt more), tried a pair of PowerStep insoles for a day (feet hurt more) and even tried swapping the insoles from my Beast 18 for new ones exchange . last three days (legs are still sore and back muscles tight despite daily stretching). By the way, the insole for the Beast 20, size 12.5 is the same length as the insole for the Beast 18, size 12, so you can get an idea of how much their size has changed. Anyway, I found another pair of Beast 18s online so I'm set for the next six months or so. But I'm still terribly disappointed with the changes that have been made to the Beast 20 - I literally can't wear them without complaints. I've been a Brooks regular for years and have lost count of how many pairs of Beasts I've worn over the years. But I'll look elsewhere for my next pair of shoes when my last pair of Beast 18s wear out. Why would Brooks make so many changes to a previously great (and popular) shoe? ORIGINAL REVIEW: I've worn Brooks Beast since they were white with blue trim and didn't have a shoe number. These were the first proper running shoes I ever bought and even after I realized my running days were over I continued to buy them and use them for my daily walks. They gave me stability, support and just made my plantar fasciitis go away. So when the size 20 arrived and my second pair of 18s was worn out, I immediately ordered this new model. When the first pair arrived I was stunned that the size (12EE) I was wearing no longer fit me. were tighter and suddenly became too short and my big toe was practically stuck on the end of the boot. So I sent them back and ordered 12.5EE. They were tighter - a little looser, so I just laced them tighter - and started walking 2.5 miles a day. The plantar fasciitis suddenly came back and I started having cramps in my calves. I thought maybe I'm just not used to them, or it was a transitional period after wearing an old pair of Nikes while waiting for them to arrive. But after running Beast 20s for about 10 days, nothing improved. I returned to Nike and the plantar fasciitis and cramps subsided. While I can't swear these symptoms were caused by the Beast 20, they certainly coincided with my attempts to walk in it and disappeared when I stopped wearing it. I asked my daughterโ€”a runner, hiker, and mountaineerโ€”if anyone other than Brooks makes good running shoes that really focus on support and stability, and she pointed me to the Saucony. I went for a pair but it turned out the store didn't have my size. However, they had a pair of Brooks Beast 18s in my size that I bought and have been comfortable in ever since. I think I have until early next spring to figure out what to do when they wear out.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
