We love this mattress! As a first-time mom with a background in chemistry, I am very concerned about gassing and the use of flame retardants on regular mattresses. So I looked everywhere for a safe way to sleep in a room for our son. After realizing that most co-sleeping mattresses and portable cribs contain chemicals, we settled on mini-beds and organic mattresses. Babyletto is one of the few latex-free and organic mini crib mattresses on the market. This mattress is a perfect match for DaVinci brand mini beds and even pairs well with Target brand sheets. The firmness seems reasonable for sleeping babies: firm enough to be secure but not so firm that baby is uncomfortable. We don't use an extra waterproof cover and the mattress hasn't gotten dirty yet (despite some spitting). We are very satisfied with this product and can only recommend it! Knowing that your child is not being exposed to unnecessary toxins and gases is really worth the extra money.
