These are mostly logic gates which can do interesting things without the need of a controller and useful to automate basic tasks which you don't necessarily want a controller handling. In most cases logic chips have been obsoleted by micro controllers and is typically easier to write a couple lines of code, or use a standalone transistor to switch or invert a signal, than to wire a complex circuit to utilize these various chips. However, these can be useful on the odd occasion when your controller board is running low on I/O pins. The shift register, for instance, is great for expanding 3 controller pins into 8, 16 or more. This can be extraordinarily helpful if using a pin scarce board like the ESP-01.I mostly purchased these for tinkering, educational pursuits, and to build up stock of various components which may someday fit into a project.I probably paid a little more than neccessary for this kit but the packaging was a big selling point. I appreciate the case which is well built and clearly labled with pinouts for every chip which makes sorting and prototyping much easier.
