Is the 3.5mm plug too long?

Ordered to connect a microphone (XLR connector) to the external audio connector (3.5mm stereo connector) of a Canon camcorder. But the 3.5mm jack seems to be either too long or too big in diameter to fit fully inside the camcorder and let the external mic take over the internal mics. Other 3.5mm stereo jacks will fit easily. So, without another adapter, this device was not suitable for my needs.

Its nicely shielded and holds up well. The connections are good and fit tight in the receiving end
