Cleaning a litter box is something we always hate. It's like a chore that requires gloves, a mask, and maybe even a shower and change of clothes afterwards. After reading the reviews, we hardly tried the product. We have 3 trays and decided that if the LUUP tray didn't work, we wouldn't replace the other two. I've read that this compartment is much dirtier to change. But that's not the case. I think if I was drunk it could be dirtier. I don't recommend trying to clean the tray while drunk. But while you're sober, it's easy to change without making a mess. That's what you do Take an old newspaper. Or maybe a paper towel or napkin, moisten it a little. Dampen it with water - if your cats are like ours, scented cleaning products will make them boycott the litter box. Lift the top drawer and let the dirt sift into the bottom drawer. Throw any "gifts" left by your cat in a garbage bag. If something sticks to the tray, you'll need a damp paper towel here. It wipes off very easily with plain water if you use a clumping litter. (We haven't tried this with non-clumping litter.) Dry it out. Then we give the part that was on top a quarter turn and put it on the bottom. That's all. This takes about 1 minute. We have found it important to ensure there is enough litter in the box. If there is not enough litter, it will likely stick to the sides of the tray. Also, place a toilet mat or rug under the drawer. If you accidentally try to change the box while drunk, it will be easier to clean up if something spills on the mat. After ordering the first one, we went ahead and substituted the other two. Now we have a spray bottle of plain water and some paper towels by our side. It is much easier to clean than traditional trays. And it's almost fun. I mean, litter box cleaning isn't fun, but litter box cleaning is almost fun. Just don't clean the tray when you're drunk.
