Strange knocking at certain RPM

Well, I'll start by liking the idea of these combo fans for monoblock coolers and heatsinks. It's just that wheel-mounted fans are a lot less bothersome and generally require fewer mounting points (although all points are available if you so desire). Hooking it up was just as easy as any other fan, but there are a few things I ran into. First, somewhere in the midst of the revolutions, a strange knocking is heard. I'm not sure if it's because of the direction I installed them (they explode at the top of my case) or because I have 2 of them in a push-pull configuration for better cooling efficiency, but either in the mid fan speed range I get a rattling noise that I can't shake off. I originally sent back the unit which I thought made noise but the new one I received does the same. It is not very noisy and this is not due to too few screws, I put all 8 pieces, which rattle in the fan itself. I chose to keep it because I like the look and rarely shoot the noise it makes, but it still dominates when it does. Otherwise they are great fans, I like the idea, I just think they need stricter specs to avoid this problem.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Generally OK, but...
