This is not the best backup solution if you don't want to spend extra money on backup software. The software that comes with this device is terrible. It keeps backups on disk until disk is full. It will then prompt you to buy a new drive. There is no way to force it to automatically delete old backups. And there is no way to delete a bunch of backups. So every day (depending on how often you back up) you get a message that the backup failed because there was no disk space. A backup can then be deleted. And then repeat the process two days later. Obviously WD hasn't spent much time working on this software and doesn't care about usability.
