EDIT: So I unsuccessfully returned the original unit for a refund, bought one of those cheap Jupiter launch monitors and gave it no more thought. About a year later I started taking lessons from a new pro at our club and he mentioned that at his previous club they were seeing very similar numbers for corner speed, carry and launch angle between the SC300 and the Trackman 4. This guy was a player mini tour so I figured he should know what he's talking about and give the SC300 another try. I have to say I'm very impressed with the new device and it seems pretty clear now that the first device I got was just a lemon. While the original device often missed carry distance by 30-40% on shots at 150 yards, the new device appears to be accurate to 60-200 yards based on laser measurements. After 200 yards I think it's still fairly accurate, but it's harder to get accurate laser readings due to our scope's location, but the transmission distances seem to match well with what I'm seeing on the track. Launch angle was really the feature I wanted, mainly to set launch conditions for wedges and drivers, and it seems to do very well here. The only thing I don't trust at all is the spin numbers. I got into drivers which were obviously a very low spin ball that fell out of the sky and was still reporting spin in the 4000+ rpm range. In general, there is only one big difference between the two copies. My guess is that my original device was either just plain bad, or the manufacturer made significant improvements through firmware updates. Very easy to use and easy to use in bright sunlight. It would be better if it didn't display the complete bullshit, but I think it's too much to ask for $550. Honestly, this thing is expensive junk. There's a saying that "no data is better than bad data," and that's entirely true here. I bought it today for a last chance at redemption after reading some forum threads about how to make the most of it and it was still very inaccurate. It's one thing if the monitor was inaccurate but at least it's consistently long or short, but it's everywhere. Doing some driver testing today I saw the ball land well past the 250 mark a few times and yet the SC300 told me I was getting less than 150 yards of carry. On the other hand, I've been told many times that I was hitting a cross at about 160 yards when I was barely passing the 50-yard mark the way I was hitting. If the accuracy wasn't bad enough, I found that I was getting a 50% detection rate at best for the driver and much less for all other clubs. When I hit a deck with 3W and 2H I couldn't get it to register a single shot, it either doesn't respond at all or throws an ERR -1 message. Finally, the app they provide seems to be in a kind of pre-alpha state. Nothing seems to work properly even though I'm using the Android version, so maybe the iOS version is better. I used an old iPhone to update the firmware on the SC300 to the latest version but haven't really tried the iOS app other than this one. Run, don't walk away from this product. This is absolute rubbish.
