I was looking for a hat with a wider brim than baseball caps for my 21 month old son. He usually blinks when it's very sunny outside and I wanted his ears and neck to be fully covered. This hat was spot on, the brim was hard enough not to obstruct the view. And the adjustable band around the head really helps, my son doesn't seem to mind putting on a hat at all but then again he is usually very good at wearing hats. The tie straps are two elastic straps that hang down each side for a small size - I took them off because they bother my son, they come off easily. I ordered the smallest size and it has room to grow. I recommend this hat, it's a good price and well made.
