These pads absorb as stated. It's great as long as it's water. But if you have some coffee that slides off the rim of the cup and onto the coaster, consider it permanently soiled. I tried several times to wash and soak the soiled coasters in water but to no avail. The coasters themselves are good (before they get dirty) and they live up to their advertising so I can't be mad. I just wish you could wash them somehow. I also wish the coasters fit better in the metal holder. For these reasons I give four stars. (I'm tempted to give less but it does what it says on the tin, I just didn't think of the unintended side effects so it's my fault)
