Finding the perfect hiking shoe is a bit like searching for the holy grail. Thought I'd have it with the Lone Peak Mid 3. Everything you could want in a lightweight hiking shoe. I was nervous when they released 4 but luckily that was good too. I don't think it's an improvement over 3 though. Then came 5. I was sure if 4 didn't disappoint, then 5 wouldn't disappoint either. I was wrong. Five is terrible. Aside from having to get rid of the sling and gaiter hooks, the size is too small and they aren't that breathable which means my feet get wet and then I get blisters. There's nothing worse than shoes that are guaranteed to give you blisters. Please, altra, bring back the lone pike in the middle of 3. Why mess with perfection?
