3 year review

This is a 3 year review. I bought this thermos in 2013. I've never used it for cold drinks. only hot I make coffee mixed with butter, MCT oil and various powders. This is primarily a drink that I keep in it. Plus hot coffee. I hand wash with a mixture of dish soap and vinegar with no problems with the varnish. However, I used the dishwasher with cheaply packaged detergent for about six months, which caused the paint on the bottle to peel off. When I used it, it flew off my hand in small spots. The product's instructions for use state that you cannot use a cleaner with bleach. I think that was my problem. I used chlorox dish soap or bleach and when I did the paint peeled off. The bottle still keeps drinks hot and insulates just as well as the first day I bought it. Sometimes I make coffee, pour it into a bottle, cork it and after four hours I find it hot. Damage: The metal part of the case has two deformations. First on the rim. The photo shows that it flattened a bit when I dropped it once while cleaning. The lid still screws on well and doesn't leak because the rubber seal fits snugly around the mouth. The second on the outer, upper edge is further forward. I don't know when it happened, see below. Rubber parts are still intact. There is no problem with the top seal. From time to time a small spring loop comes out of the hook. I would estimate about every two months. It's easy to fix. I place my fingertips on either side of the free part of the ring and press on the edge of the cap where the straight hook is. The ring returns to its place and stays. The one-hand flip lid still works great. Maybe a fraction of a second slower than the new one. A simple, accidental repair is worth the longevity of this bottle. Even without the rubber ring attached, I can still open and close normally when it happens in the car, and I can't fix it with both hands at the moment. The brand logo has completely disappeared. This happened last year and I'm not sure why. Looks pretty cool. General Use: I took it with me on my daily commute to work for two and a half years. Fits in my Civic's cup holder, is quite large but great for a comfortable grip. After quitting my job, I took it on a trip to Southeast Asia for three months. I kept it on or on the side of my 48L Osprey backpack both on the ground and in flight. I've checked my bag in every time with an airport tote bag, also from Osprey. The damage to the body could be due to these episodes, but I doubt it. Specific Use: The first time I used a thermos in a car while driving. I opened the lid with one hand and drank with the other while steering the wheel. It's quite heavy, maybe three pounds when full, so I didn't drink around corners or in traffic. Drink responsibly, right? About two years later I've been using it mostly in the office and at home with a mug on the side. So I unscrewed the lid, poured into a mug and drank from the mug. That means I haven't used a cap in three years, just so you know. Size: This is a great size for the amount it packs. Three whole cups of coffee. Fabulous. Handling: For a one-handed grip, it can be quite thick and heavy. More like a soccer ball than a cup. Again, I'm guessing it weighs about three pounds when full. Get used to the balance, however, and even the most demanding user will be ready to rock and roll. Style: This is an elegant black top hat. Batman could carry this around Gotham without wasting a second. I can not complain. The only thing I would warn about are airports and high voltage places like Los Angeles freeways and especially when traveling abroad. It might look like a gun, no kidding. Be careful if you take a sudden sip, and don't do it in front of an officer or in a threatening manner. I understand how this can lead to anxiety. However, I didn't have any real problems. Just a funny look from a driver in LA when I picked him up for a drink one day. If you are looking for a lighter alternative I would recommend Zojirushi 12 oz. Bottle. I also traveled with it, for my wife. Lighter, much more comfortable in the hand, just as functional and durable. Follow this review.
