They're ready to go while they work. But if they aren't, you must be smarter than the lightbulb. First, a lightbulb is a polarity-prescribed lightbulb. This means that the pins in the socket only work in one direction. So if you put in a lightbulb and it doesn't work, take it out, rotate it 180 degrees and put it in like that. The polarity must be right, otherwise there will be no light. Second, the cartridge must be able to come into contact with the bulb. In my sockets, the metal pins in the socket would get crushed over time with use. The images are as clear as I can get, but you will see an image where the pins are actually bent inward, sideways, set back. Make sure the switch is off and gently bend them back a little so that they are no longer bowed inward but are aligned or slightly raised (just slightly). Then try the LED again. In EVERY one of my outlets, one or the other of the above two repairs has brought the LED back to life. My camper looks great now and I've ordered more to replace the rest of the lights.
