I have a Sherline lathe and mill and the standard face plate that comes with the lathe is too small for this chuck. The chuck will not mount directly to spindles that have both a #1 Morse taper (female) and a 3/4-16 (male) thread. I think this cartridge would be much better if the baseplate wasn't so massive. In any case, you will need an additional adapter to mount it on the spindle. I used the HHIP 3" HHIP Backplate Adapter to do this. However, these two items are not ready to be combined. The insert on the narrow end of the adapter is too large to fit in the recess on the chuck and needs machining. down about 1mm. After that they fit together snugly (see photo). Also the backplate on the adapter is redundant and in my opinion too bulky to serve its purpose optimally. When you assemble the adapter and clamp them together they make one big piece Steel. They take up over an inch of extra X-axis to accommodate volume beyond what would be required for an ideal cartridge. But on the plus side, the liner looks and feels like good stainless steel feels nice and smooth when turning the ER-32 chuck nut. I wish I could say the same about the adapter. Its 3/4-16 threads look pretty torn and I'm having a hard time getting it right onto the lockers l to be mounted without a really bad concentricity occurring.
