Review on Jamo C93-II Black Speaker by Monica Satchell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Yes please, on the bookshelf Speakers

Well, I'm the first to review. I like these speakers very much. They replaced a pair of Elac Debut F5 floorstanding speakers which were fine but I never liked them. It's definitely a matter of taste, but the Elacs were very soft and smooth, which may be okay for some, but I found the sound to be a bit muffled, especially at high frequencies. I wanted more clarity, detail and texture. I bought these based on the Z reviews of the previous C93 and current C91 ii and the zero fidelity review if this speaker is available. I got everything I wanted from the highs, but the lows are better too, cleaner. I use a subwoofer because I already have one, but I suspect that unless they're bass dogs, you could be happy with them entirely without a subwoofer. I found the crossover and gain in the subwoofer to be set lower than the Elacs, mainly so the subwoofer doesn't interfere with the clean bass these Jamos produce, which is counterintuitive. I expected bookshelf speakers to need more subwoofer support than floorstanding speakers. The soundstage is wide and deep. If I close my eyes, I can swear I'm sitting in a theater full of speakers and not in my living room. Unless my house burns down or gets swept away by a tornado, I don't expect to be replacing them for decades to come. I forgot to mention these are sexy looking speakers with a textured white vinyl finish, curved shape and tweed magnetic grille. I've never had impure thoughts about speakers.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
