Opening capsules and putting them in food is an annoying extra step considering capsules don't provide as much relief. The elderly and beloved "Old Buddy" hardly moves on his three and a half legs. Spinal pain increases as it approaches the two decade mark. When chewing, I have a hard time breaking him into small enough pieces (which are easier for him to swallow) because he has absolutely NO patience and wants to chew as soon as he smells it. Chewing gum seems to be more attractive than catnip or even grass from the yard. The powder sprinkled on the food is the first spot he eats from in his bowl, so the taste is still appealing but doesn't seem to bring him the same relief.
