A smart investment for those of you looking to remove the camshaft shift levers from a Ford 5.4 Triton 3 valve engine. I am in the process of replacing all the necessary parts to do a full timing job on a 5.4 liter 3 valve engine and let me tell you if you are doing the same job on your 5.4 Triton 3 -valve engine want to perform, do it. Don't try this without having these two tools! A phaser tool worth its weight in platinum! Anyone familiar with these Triton engines knows that cam shifters are notorious for causing shifters to fall apart, or as in my case the coil spring on my right shifter broke and this caused the engine timing to be poor on that bank - timed and unable to advance or slow down which in turn caused my motor to run extremely choppy not to mention the horrible horrible bangs and bangs it was making, the left phaser was still fine but after After removing and inspecting the left phaser, I found that the pin that fits into the groove on the camshaft is very loose! And was also in the early stages of a major malfunction! Also, these were NOT real FOMOCO phasers, this truck only has 135,000 miles and someone recently did what my dad called a rebuild. You see I just bought this truck in May 2021 after 3 months of searching and found many used trucks with new truck prices! I am in Central Georgia. And I've looked from the tip of Florida to North North Carolina! I wanted a 2004-2008 F150, I wanted a 4 door, but in May I got lucky and found it just 75 miles from my front door in Albany, Georgia. The guy who had the truck made no secret that he had engine problems but I wasn't sure why, I saw it and liked it so without even seeing it I bought it locally and called our local towing company out of Hawkinsville, Georgia at . Pick it up and bring it to my house. I was amazed at how clean the truck was and as soon as he started it and drove around our block of flats I knew immediately that one or both of the phase shifters were defective. I drove it from time to time It was here until it went into safe mode about a month ago, I parked it and started researching parts and prices! Not to mention the countless hours I've spent on Youtube researching how to do a complete timing job on a 2004-2008 Ford Triton 5.4 3-valve engine, since I was very mechanically inclined I left in no way discourage me from the steps and scale it was. I'll take care of this repair. I did a much more complex repair at 51! However, this is not the same as changing the spark plugs on a 1970/Chevy pickup! Some of the things that have made this job a lot smoother are two great tools I'm reviewing right now, a cam lock tool and a timing tool that slides onto the crankshaft and aligns with one of the front end timing pins. Cap to make sure you are at top dead center or top dead center. Mandatory when timing all engines! I highly recommend you to invest in these two little tools as they are very inexpensive and extremely easy to use. Also, it's an extra problem when it comes to getting the engine on time!
