This is a classic example of "you get what you pay for". I used to ride Derby but gave it up years ago. I recently decided to go roller skating again. I gave away all my gear a long time ago and needed to buy new ones. To save money I didn't want to invest in Derby brands and I realized I wouldn't go fast so why would I need expensive gear. I bought them. To be honest, I wish I could just swallow the bullet and go for a triple eight or 187 gear. They look and feel cheap. The knee pads don't stay in place - they rotate around the knee as you move. This gear is small. That means the trail barely covers what it's supposed to. There is great movement in them because there is so little in them. And they're probably good for beginner skaters or amateur skaters who don't move fast or skaters who won't skate much. If you're just starting out and not sure if skating is right for you, these are a good choice as they're inexpensive. Once you've decided that skating is fun for you, buy the best gear. Please note that it is not suitable for taller adults. I'm a tall adult and they just look stupid on me. The knee straps fit around the circumference of my knee, but the padding portion is ridiculously small. I think the straps are thin so they move. Short answer: budget gear for beginners / people who just want to ride to see if they like it. Nothing for big adults.
