My A/V receiver remote had some buttons that didn't work and my DirecTV remote had seen better days so I bought it , my first universal remote setup: I plugged it into my computer with the USB cable that came with it, went to the website, and basically everything went smoothly. I had to install setup software but it was easy. It would be nice if they gave a drop down list of models when choosing a manufacturer, but I had the information so that wasn't a problem. I had created an account and registered my devices in less than 10 minutes. The tricky part came when I wanted to map keys. You'll get an image of the Harmony remote and press the button you want to assign, then choose a command from the list for the remote to replace it. What they don't tell you is that you need to click on the word "Assign" that appears on the right; I kept trying to click the button name while it's highlighted and got no response. After assigning the buttons, you must press "Sync" for the changes to be programmed into the remote. Just 15 minutes of unnecessary frustration. Once everything was done I was able to use the 5 favorite channel buttons to select the input source. There's also a button that turns everything on and off with a single press, although the remote needs to be far enough away for all of my devices to be selected successfully. Ease of use: The font on the source buttons is small, so I took a minute to memorize who controls what, and now it's intuitive. The remote itself is very comfortable to hold and I particularly like the volume and channel buttons as they are easy to see in the dark. I can easily do everything like the original on my DirecTV box with no reconfiguration required. Key presses register very easily and consistently if you aim well enough. What could be better: I really want this remote control to have Bluetooth functionality so I can use it on my computer and playstation. I didn't want to spend a fortune on one of the high end Harmony remotes and have a stand and hub and other such things that make a mess. I'm not sure why it can't do what the $25 PS3 remote can do without all the extras. Final Thoughts: I paid $39 for this and it's worth the price. It feels snazzy, looks good and is very responsive.
