The CPU settled on a midrange configuration, primarily for gaming, and gobbled up a core2dou 3000hz (which still sluggishly operates, my apologies for having only two processing cores). Reviews pointed to the amd fx8350 as the best option, but I opted for the fx6300 instead (the fx8350 wasn't available at the time of purchase) due to its lower thermal design need; when overclocked, the two are essentially identical (though I don't actually need to overclock). Since without overclocking you can set all coolers to "silence" mode so that they are not heard, even "turbo boost" was turned off, otherwise the frequency up to 4000 Hz jumped from the factory 3500 Hz, and everything worked perfectly. At 100% load (aida64), the cooler's noise level should be between 42-43% with these default settings. In general, with an Asus M5A97 motherboard, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 460 1 GB graphics card, and an AMD 6300 processor, a 64-player BF4 network game may be played smoothly on medium settings.
