I use the A7Rii and needed a small and light 24mm lens mainly for street photography (I'm not a professional so it's a hobby). I have a Sony 24-105 which is a great lens but gets very heavy when I'm carrying it around all day and hard to miss when I'm using it (I take a lot of photos in Europe, often on not-so-great ones places). My other main lens is the Sony 35mm 1.8, which I really like but wanted something a bit wider. I was about to shoot the much more expensive Sony 22mm 1.4 GM when this lens was announced and decided to wait and give it a try. After taking lots of photos for a week, my experience was mixed. The pros are that it's so small and light and RAW images are pretty good after working with them in LR. Native JPGs were less impressive (which may vary by camera). But due to the many barrel distortions, uncorrected RAW files are unusable in LR (and currently LR doesn't have a lens profile for this Sony, so everything has to be done manually). I spent a lot of time deciding whether or not to return the lens and finally decided that the small size suited my very specific needs. I also like the aperture ring and custom button. But in general I'm not thrilled with the optical performance of the lens (it's not as sharp and colors are more muted than my Sony 35mm or 22-105) and such unless you need a very light lens and are on Sony attached I would either go to another and cheaper manufacturer or buy a GM 22mm lens. And if you're shooting in RAW, I'd wait until Adobe releases a lens profile before buying. Update: Adobe has released a lens profile that makes using the lens much easier and the results seem better.
