This product did not work and damaged my videotape - the tension motor did not work fully

I am a professional video director. I convert most video formats to digital formats. When my VHS-C adapter broke, I ordered this one. I don't know if this was a lemon (i.e. a fraudulent bad product) or if it's a design flaw affecting the product across the board. FYI - I use high quality 4 head Mitsubishi VHS machines. I put a new AA battery in the adapter, put in a VHS-C cassette and started playing it on my device. Played normally for 2 minutes, then strange noises were heard and the picture was cut off. I stopped the machine pressed the eject button and immediately it became clear that the tape had been dropped into the machine (i.e. the spool motor is not fully running). So I put in another brand new AA battery, put in another VHS-C cassette and the same problem happened. To make sure that the problem was indeed caused by this product, I borrowed a VHS-C adapter from a friend, tried both tapes, which didn't work with this unit, and there were no problems when I tried my friend's adapter used. Note. that only one element may have failed and this may or may not affect this product as a whole. which didn't work with this device and there were no problems when I used my friend's adapter.
