Review on πŸ“Ή Panasonic PVGS12 MultiCam Camcorder (Discontinued) - 20x Optical Zoom | Digital Palmcorder for High-Quality Video Capture by Tyler Spencer

6 years with Palmcorder

After 6 years with Palmcorder I just bought a second one for a dual camera setup (both work from different angles as I shoot martial arts training videos). For those new to digital camcorders I think this is a great camera. Of course, for those who are intermediate to advanced, you already know that you'll want to spend a little more for a bigger and better camera that suits your needs. The palm corder takes good video, but you need extra lighting. They say it's good in low light, but admittedly I've never found that to be true, even after LOTS of experimentation. And on the street or indoors with normal lighting? You will find a good video result. The sound is tolerable, but by connecting an external microphone you can hear a slight "hum" in the background (eliminated in the post). Painful but still affordable. No noise is detected when zooming in and out, but I rarely zoom in anyway. When I need a closer shot, I move the camera closer as there is always some pixelation when zooming. It's not "too" bad scaling, but beyond the 1/3 bar you see you'll find a lot of pixelation. Ribbon switching is great compared to Canon (Canon's ribbon door is on the bottom and you have to remove it from the tripod, while Panasonic and most others are on the side). The battery life is 1-2 hours depending on the age of the battery. My first is over 6 years old and I had to replace it last month. 5 years is good. Hand control could be improved, but passable. Automatic management works well for new users, and you probably won't even need the rest. However, if you want to learn how to do it, it's a simple process. For the best shots, I recommend a good tripod to keep your camera steady (also for all cameras), especially when zooming in. the camera is stable when zoomed in, but the palm corder should faint after zooming in too far. It turns out a lot of pixels. Read this as "don't zoom in unless absolutely necessary and you will be fine". I have used my palmcorder in all weathers and conditions and it has performed like a dream. Good video, good sound, good battery life and easy controls. The only "bad" is that you need to acclimatize the camera for about 15-30 minutes in wet weather. But since you have to do that with every camera, it's not Panasonic's fault anyway, so it's not a big deal. In general? This is a great camera for the price, and it's also a solid piece of hardware that you'll love. Study well and also be a good rear camera or use dual camera system.
