Review on Parker Variant Adjustable Safety Razor - Customize Shave Intensity with Dial Turner & 5 Premium Blades (Graphite) by Josh Suter

The best damn razor I've ever used

I've been wet shaving for about 3 years now. In that time I have accumulated a wealth of safety razors, creams, brushes, preshave oils, aftershave sprays/lotions, colognes etc. Wet shaving has quickly become a much-needed part of my morning routine (I shave every day). per day) as it provided 20-30 minutes of mental therapeutic bliss. To be honest the aromatherapy alone combined with the amazing scents of some of these creams/aftershaves/colognes and the like makes the whole shaving process extremely rewarding. Which brings me to the Parker option. Again, I've used a lot of different razors in the 3 years I've been doing this - each had their pros and cons and I actually liked some of them. I love my Merkur 34c, I love my EJ De89, I have 2 razors from Maggard (MR11 and MR7 with V3 and V2 OC heads) which are phenomenal for the price etc. Heck, I even have cheap Chinese razors ( Baili TTOs are the ones that companies like Vikings Blade sell for around $37) that I use from time to time, mostly when traveling. Although I've used ALL of these razors multiple times, I can't remember having an AMAZING shave when I first used the razor, but that changed with my first use of the Parker Variant. After reading the instructions that came with the razor, I set it up for the next morning after my shower. I used Maggard Razors Pre-Shave Oil, Maggard Razors Brush, Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Cream, and Parker Variant at a setting of 2.5 (my facial hair wasn't long enough to need more razor action). Although I usually use Feather blades, I opted for the Shark blades that came with the razor, although I remembered disliking them a couple of times when I used them. Nothing against them, just remembered more irritation/cuts and the need for more passes after using these blades. Well I will say that this is HUGE testament to the Parker Variant of how amazing my first run with the included Shark blade was as every time I have used this blade the results have been sub-par. Maybe it's me - maybe I just haven't used Shark blades in a while and have since improved my wet shaving skills. Anyway, the Parker version with Shark blades was fine. So good it didn't even need the usual third pass. I did 2 passes, rinsed my face, used some Thayer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel for my aftershave spray and that was it. I dressed for work, spritzed on Versace Man Eau Fraiche, my wife (who doesn't usually do this) commented on how great my face looked and how great I smelled, and I left the house feeling like a fucking rock star. One more thing - I've used several Parker razors in the past - none of them fall anywhere near in the same category as the Variant. Not even close. Sorry for the novelization everyone - I just had to go insane at how awesome this thing is. If you're a veteran of wet shaving and don't already own this razor, add it to your collection. You will not be disappointed. If you're new to wet shaving or thinking about getting into it because you're tired of multi-billion dollar shaving cartridge companies robbing and robbing your bank account (or you just want some morning therapy before you start your day), this is it's the only razor you'll ever need. It's inevitable that you'll end up buying more razors and such as that's just the nature of the wet shaving game, but I bet you'll keep coming back to your option no matter how many other razors you collect.

Pros
  • I finally have it
Cons
  • sad packaging
